For most of us, it is a mind-baffling scenario when we have to decide between an Assembled and a Branded PC. There are many aspects that one has to consider to make a firm and accurate decision.

Two questions that you should ask yourself:
What do you want your new PC to do?(In other words your requirement – Games, Movies, Daily use or High-End programming)
How much can you afford to pay?

If you have a definite and clear answer to the above questions, we are half done. It is a fact that you can save some good money if you assemble a PC rather than going for a branded one with same or similar configuration.
There are few good reasons for buying a branded PC. You get Hardware and Software warranty and the manufacturer will be your one stop shop for all troubles. However, few drawbacks too – You cannot upgrade your PC hardware by yourself else you break the support agreement. Same goes with the Software warranty, you gotta live with what the manufacturer provides you. However, frankly speaking branded PC never absolutely coincides with the dream PC on your mind. What I mean is, may be it has a good processor to support High-End Games but may not have a satisfying Graphics Card or may be I need 4 Graphics Card to support my Dual monitors along with ATI CrossFire but I cannot get every thing in the factory fitted box. So manufacturers do give the option of customizing their products but they become insanely costly.

I want to try to make this process of assembling as simple as possible for you. If you just need a normal daily use PC then I would suggest checking the websites of manufacturers like Dell, HP, IBM, Fujitsu etc and getting the detailed specification. You shop these parts and get it assembled from the Computer markets like Nehruplace in Delhi else, you can put the parts together in the cabinet.

I will today try to illustrate with an example how to assemble a perfect heavy gaming or high processing PC.

I have always analyzed that INTEL has a good will, which make their products costly. I bet AMD will give you better product for the same amount. AMD is par excellent as INTEL, especially AMD with ASUS system board combination.

I will use the AMD website for the list of processors (Same applies even if you decide on INTEL). Every processor will list its capability and efficiency.
I checked and found AMD Phenom as the best choice for an Ultimate Gaming machine. AMD Phenom X4 and X3 are the best processors in the group. AMD describes it as built from the ground up for true quad- and triple core performance, AMD Phenom processors speed through advanced multitasking, critical business productivity, advanced visual design and modeling, serious gaming, and visually stunning digital media and entertainment.

Last step is to decide on the Processor Model for the decided Processor Line, which in our case is AMD Phenom X4 and X3. MOTHERBOARD(SYSTEM BOARD) + CHIPSET

I have a great board: ASUS M3A32-MVP Deluxe/WiFi-AP. Once you get the list of AMD recommended boards, go to the each manufacturers’ site and study each board individually. This will help you see what extra one has over other. For example, MSI may give you great board but ASUS may give you great board with WiFi on board, two Network cards, more internal storage capacity, Motherboard heat sink, fanless environment etc. Believe me, better you analyze – money spent is justified better.
When it comes to chipset, you really don’t have to worry as all motherboard manufactures’ give the best chip sets for their boards. The best chipset manufacturers are AMD, Intel and NVIDIA. There are others as well but preferably stay with the best.
Our motherboard has AMD 790FX Chipset, which is the best combination with our AMD processor.

MEMORY(RAM)

Well, we just finished the toughest part. Memory selection is easy as you motherboard will tell you what good for it. In our case, DDR2-1066 is the best choice. This board can support memory with lesser frequency but it’s good to go for the best. Since our board has great expandability we don’t have to buy everything in one go. I mean processor and board are the system foundation. After this if we run short on cash, get only one memory stick of 2 or 4 GB. You can keep expanding it later as you need it. Same applies to other stuff too, like Graphics card or Sound card etc. Best manufacturers for memory are Kingston, Transcend and Corsair

GRAPHICS CARD

You can always use Compatibility Information and Recommended Components information on the AMD website for recommendations for other system parts as well.
Graphics is something where ‘More the better’. If you can afford you can get great graphics card with 2GB video memory, heavy gamer will need this for better performance. ASUS and NVIDIA makes the best High-End cards. Have a look yourself on their sites.

HARD DRIVE

Storage is again a matter of personal preference. Only factor could be the HDD RPM, the more the RPM better is the response time for the disk. Frankly, 7k or 10k RPM is so fast that you wont notice any change when running 15k HDD. Still your call… Best SEAGATE

SOUND CARD

This is again you call according to your needs or how loud you wanna get?
Best manufacturer is Creative.

CABINET

This is very important part. Heavy Processor and Motherboard will create more heat and may likely incur more damages to themselves. ASUS Heat sink will bring down the system temperature by 10 degrees but you do need good cabinet to make sure of proper airflow and temperature control.
Cooler Master makes the best cabinets and you can choose according to your needs.

POWER UNIT(SMPS)

More components inside the box more power is needed. Normal machine will just need 250 or 390 Watts unit. However if you are going to run four High-End graphics card then you will need 1000 or 1250 Watts unit. Visit Cooler Master and identify a product of you needs.

MONITOR

Completely depends on your needs. Best ones are from LG, SAMSUNG, VIEWSONIC, SHARP, DELL and APPLE.

Step by Step Procedure in formating XP

Before we proceed on formatting your PC, you must check if you already have this things:

*Operating System CD (Windows Xp sp2/sp3 for 32bit/64bit)
*Your Back Up drivers of your motherboard(if you don't have go here first)
*Your PC must reach at least the minimum requirements of Windows XP
-300mhz or higher processor clock speed (minimum is 233mhz)
-128mb of RAM (minimum is 64mb but may not use all of its features)
-1.5gb available disk space
-CD-ROM or DVD drive
-keyboard and mouse

Don't forget to back up your important files and documents on any external memory or in second partition of your hard disk if ever you have (C:,D:,E:)

If you have already have check those things we can start reformatting.

Step 1:
Open your computer pressing its power switch then determine what key is to press on entering CMOS setup(can be DEL, F2 or else) press until CMOS setup appeared.

Step 2:
In CMOS setup panel, locate Advance setup on tab which contains the settings of boot device (1st boot, 2nd boot, 3rd boot), we will setup the first boot to your CD/DVD-ROM, then save your settings(SAVE AND QUIT) then it will reboot.

Step 3:
after rebooting, insert immediately your Windows XP CD then these words will appear "Press any key to enter Setup" the press any key, if you didn't see these words just manually reboot.

Step 4:
Just wait until the loading setup ends, then you will be given 3 options:
1. Setup Windows
2. Repair Windows
3. Quit

choose setup windows then press F8 when agreement prompt.

Step 5:
("Locate the keys on how to Delete, Create, Format lower part of your screen")
Delete your partition containing your old Operating System, if you have two or more partition it was commonly the first partition, but if you wanted to set again your partition, you can delete both for clean format.

Step 6:
Now manage your partition depending on how you wanted to divide your memory spaces (I prefer 20-40gb on your 1st partition and the rest is on second) just delete first, create a new partition, input your desired memory space then OK, now proceed on next step.

Step 7:
Select the first partition you did and next step is to format it, select NTFS quick format then wait until its finished.

Step 8:
after that it will install your windows XP system files so you have to wait till it will reboot and proceed on Windows Setup, you just have to follow instructions, you can also skip other things for later configuration, this setup will search for your Genuine key for Windows XP so input it.

Step 9:
we are done in reformating and installing Windows Xp on your desktop, now setup your PC, install your back up drivers and enjoy your fresh format Computer.
